CHARLESTON HAS JUNK!

We decided to spend Easter in Charleston SC. It's only a 3 hour drive and worth it! It is absolutely one of my favorite places on earth. One of the best things about Charleston is that it is filled with secrets and suprises all over the place. There are soooooo many neat little shops that have "secret" outdoor areas too. We were going past this one place across from Rainbow Row and there was an artist outside painting and we started chatting and he took us inside to show us around. He shop was sooo small about the size of a kiosk in mall really (maybe just a tad bigger but you understand right??) BUT I peeked outside and here was this junk garden area and everything was for sale. I did get a piece of old chippy ceiling tin from and old Charleston House on Broad street! This is another "secret" about Charleston...while they are fancy schmancy on alot of things...they still have junk too!! That makes it even more irrisitable!!If you have never been ....you gotta go....it is wonderful.

THRIFT STORE BURLAP TOTEBAG MAKEOVER!

Okay...at first glance I KNOW what you are thinking....I even picked it up and put it down myself ....then I kept thinking about it because I really love that granny smith apple green color, but my initial is no where near "R" BUT then I came up with this idea.....TURN IT INTO A PILLOW!! So here we go..................
First step is to cut the bag apart....cut the top handles off and then just follow the seams and cut all the way around. Your goal is to get two even pieces.......................

LIKE THIS!!!. You will have to do some trimming to get them even. I did not use a pattern for this , I just eye balled the pieces but you could ...just to be sure...lay out a template for accuracy. At this point sew the pieces right sides together leaving a small opening on the bottom. Turn the pillow right side out, stuff with fiber fill and sew opening closed.

You will end up with this FABULOUS LOOKING TRENDY MONOGRAM ACCENT PILLOW! This project was soooooo inexpensive....the tote bag cost a whopping .25 cents and it took all of 1/2 hour to get it done start to finish. The best part is I can also use the twine that was the handle to hang my price tags with! A total recycle project that looks like a million bucks!!
SO get out there and rummage thru the tote bags next time and give this a try! Have fun!

DECORATING THE BATH WITH JUNK FINDS!

You know how you can go out and buy ONE SMALL THING and it catapults you into this creative design frenzy??? You don't really know when it's gonna hit but when it does....LOOK OUT!!! I love it when that happens. Well this past Friday night I was walking through the garage and I spotted the fantastic shutter that Janna gave me for Valentines Day....instantly I thought bathroom.....behind the sink!!! Oh does it look gooooooooood....then I decided to hang the most wonderful old , chippy white, doesn't work any more..needs re-wired, chandelier over the bathtub! This was the "one small thing" that started this whole makeover....got it for 20.00 bucks!! Good Lord I was on a roll now!! Went and grabbed some votive candles and set them where the lightbulbs should go and it was a perfect fit!! Okay now....see the chippy garden / plant stand???? Well all my toiletries have always been setting on that and I hated the "organized mess" sooooooooooooooo I remembered these FAB painted white wire locker baskets in my shed and brought out a few to organize all that stuff up! It all took less than an hour and made a world of difference! The big mirror with the chippy frame I have had up there and is originally from a phone company and the enamelware pitcher came from an auction for 15.00! The mannequin head works great to hold my earrings and other jewerly. I have since added a few straight pins too keep it all in place! So there ya go ...a few junk pieces is all it takes to create a restful bath with a great look! If you'd like to see more of my junk finds...hop on over to Olde Tyme Marketplace!
